GEORGE TOWN, Feb 24 -- Penang Gerakan wants the State Government to restore the Runnymede building in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah for its significant historical value after being demolished on February 9. During the recent Chinese New Year holidays, landowners bulldozed a 208-year-old Runnymede Bungalow where the then Penang Governor's assistant secretary Sir Stamford Raffles used to live. The bungalow, along with six other buildings were cleared. A three-storey hotel annexe, built in 1930, was however spared from the wrecking ball.--fotoBERNAMA (2016) COPY RIGHT RESERVED
