BATU FERINGHI, Dec 31 -- Janek Gwizdala (center) and band mates of the Janez Gwizdala Project from Norway/America, trumpeteer Audun Waage (left) and drummer Jojo Mayer (far left) provided powerful performances and improvisation at PIJF. The key element of jazz music is improvisation which allow musicians to venture into various directions whether it be world music, pop, rock or even dance. Improvisation requires a combination of skills and intuition to be able to create spontaneous rhythms and melodies during performances.Born of the convergence of African and European music traditions, jazz originated in the beginning of the 20th century by African American communities in the southern United States.
